Is my problem the ecu?
« on: 20 February 2004, 12:59 »
My Mk3 2.0 16 has an odd problem. it starts and idles but as soon as you press the accelerator the engine floods and it cuts out. The only was to get it going is to press the accelerator really really slowly till the revs pick up. Then when its going it has no power at all. I have had a mechanic check everything and cant find any faults. Is the problem the ecu. How much would it cost to replace it?

Simple...  get a diagnostic test and it'll tell you if the ECU has any faults... VW charge ?69.75 & VAT so i'd try and get it done somewhere else cheaper if you can!

Ive had the ecu read many times. i mean is it a problem with the ecu not a sensor reporting to the ecu.

SOLVED! The timing was out 6 teeth and the origional ecu had an idle fault. Why didnt the 1st mechanic realise that the timing was out. Its not brain surgery is it?
