Gear linkage part numbers?

Have had a few problems with gearchanges on my MK2 8v since I bought it but have only just had a chance to look into them properly and figure out what needs replacing.

The first is being able to select reverse without pushing down - whipped the gaiter off and could see straight away that half the gate riveted to the car has snapped off. Is there a replacement part for this or will I have to get a bit of plate cut to shape? Part number if it's available from VW?

The second problem is it being a right pain to get into 5th. Had a look at it with a mechanic mate of mine and we've narrowed it down to the circled bush in the below picture:



It's completely shot and is allowing a silly amount of left-right movement of the shaft going through it. Anyone know the VW part number for it so we can replace it? All other bushes seem fine (went out and bought the GSF kit as I was pretty sure it'd be those bushes that need replacing but they're actually all in very good nick and look recently done).

For your problem with 5th gear - Check the small plastic linkage somewhere near the gear box, can't remember exactly where. I had a similar problem when i got my car and it turned out this linkage was cracked but you couldn't see it until a degree of pressure was applied.

I have the same problem with the gate being broken so if you manage to get a p/n could you post it in here? As for removing it, like you say it is riveted to the car so would have to be drilled out but getting a drill down there will be a pain in the backside.

If the kit you got from gsf was part no. 71709C it had a replacement for the bush you're after there. Kinda hard to miss

I'm thinking of doing this aswell with a view to fitting to short shifter.

Thats the kit i fitted, superb, does the job lovely, feels like a new box now, I did the relay bush at the same time.
Couldn't believe the amount of fractures the old plastic link arms had, well worth doing, even if you think all is fine!!

Mark - are you sure? I didn't get right under the car but my mate said that it was way to small to be a replacement for that bush? Isn't it a replacement for the orange one you can see in the picture?

Also, apparently the reverse guide is 191 711 146 C
