suddenly car wont start?
« on: 20 July 2007, 10:42 »
car been running a bit funny lately. when pulling off on putting foot on the accelerator takes a fews seconds to build up power on first start then ok. yesterday went to start and the bloody thing just wouldn't catch, trying to fire is there but just can't get it before flooding.

so i took the plugs out and replaced them they were were well sooty and one had oil on it. took the throttle body off and gave it a good clean then all the connections i could find gave them a little clean.

also checked the rotor arm and dizzy cap and gave them a little clean to too.

but the damn thing is still not starting.

any other suggestions welcome.

are you getting a spark from the coil? these are a very common failure.

Unfortunately you've done everything I would suggest after having a similar problem not so long ago. :undecided:

Just a thought.
Did you put the plug leads in the right order? I suspect the timing is out.
Also with the ignition on, can you hear the ISV buzzing?

right, had another go.

got spark from coil and on plug 1.

isv buzzes when ignition is turned on.

all leads are in the right order.

the car is trying to fire and there is fuel coming threw, it just won't go all the way.

am currently waiting for a friend of a friend to pop over with the hope he'll go "oh that's so an so" (wishful thinking i think )

i'll post when i get more info any other ideas peeps.

in my frustration i forgot to post it's mk3 16v abf

thanks for the suggestions so far.
