cutting out?
« on: 18 July 2007, 00:42 »
had a look at that big 'flying saucer' thing on the top of my rocker cover today.it seemed a little greasy but i popped it back in. anyway, i drove to work, and the car kept cutting out.maybe 3 or 4 times over 15 miles. the engine revs just instantly dropped.it seems too quick to be just an air leak. maybe?

the only other things iv done yeaterday were tighten up the alt and pas belts.

PLEASE HELP !!!

Paul

ahhhh mines been doing the same. though havent driven it for over a week... we did the rocker cover gasket on mine and the flying saucer grommit had perished. Now this doens't stay on right, and mine keeps cutting out.

But like you i also tightened my alternator belt, so i spose it could be either.

Is it when you pull up to a juntion and put the clutch in it'll cut out with no juddering. And when mine returns to idle its a bit shaky, maybe drops a bit too low but then return to ide just fine.

 :undecided:

not having exactly the same problem, but mine sort-of blips, where the engine cuts out for half a second, but just keeps on going...think its something to do with the gromet holding the saucer thingy on... seems loose...

snap! after i did my cambelt and changed my rockercover gasket. the gasket i got is proper rubbish though so ive invested in a beutiful all in one rubber one with studs from VW! goodbye oil leaks! my flying saucer gromet is looser than a wizards cuff and temporarily held with a cable tie! NICE!

ITS A TRAP!

i think we can say its the grommit. it was split, tbh i think i did it when i fiddled with it.  gaffer taped it up and its all ok, if not running a little rough

runs a LOT better with a new one in, but by golly they're tough to get in when new (lube needed )

I don't think a semi will give the same results
