Stealers and road tests
« on: 16 July 2007, 10:55 »
Morning all,

Just left my baby with the stealer to sort my jammed front seat and also to sort some rattles out. They said they'd need to take it on a road test, which is understandable, but how many miles would you think is acceptable? I've made a note of the mileage from when I dropped it off as I'm worried I'm going to get some little oik tearing up and down the motorway with his mates!!

Cheers
John

i would have thought around 10-15 minutes maximum; depends on how quickly the fault re-occurs really.

sadly you don't have any sure way of checking they're being kind to your motor

although you could make a note of your long term MPG and compare that; if they've given your car a bit of a thrashing that normally drops this reading a couple of points; worth checking as I've had a blazing arguement with one garage! they knocked at least 8mpg off the long term average meaning they would have to have caned it for a good few miles

TBH with regards the rattle, I'd have gone with the fitter/ manager, then you could have pointed it out to him, even get him to crawl around while you found roads that bring it on.

When I had problems with my MKV GTTDI cutting out, I let the dealer have it for 3 days to test it and they did 60 miles in it. It was a mixed bag really as the service manager used it for 2 days and said that it cut out twice (once each day) so why did he have to take it out the second day? On the plus side, they filled up the tank with more than enough juice to cover the 60 miles they did (but I did give it them with the tank nearly empty ). They also valeted the car inside and out before handing it back
As a result they ordered a new ecu controller and sorted it first time. The car I got as a courtesy car was a TDI Touran, which at the time suited me fine as I took out the missis,sister,brother-in-law and their 2 kiddies for a day out.

Well they said they'd fill the car up with any petrol they use, which I'd expect anyway!

I hope the clean it for me as it was a bit of a tip after the week in Wales... would be worth the hassle alone.

My "courtesy car" is a GOLF PLUS/LUNA 105 PS... not quite what I'm used to!

Reminds of the time I had a Peugeot 106 Rallye many years ago. Dropped it off at the Peugeot dealer for service and new pads, and as I was walking the 30 mins to my home saw the thing flash past me virtually on 2 wheels round the corner driven by a spotty menchanic. Suffice to say I wasn't happy.

I had a Polo 1.2 last week. Sounded like a half a V6! Didn't go like one, but it did rev well.

You guys seem very lucky in getting a courtesy car, and so you should if you need one.

I’ve been have problems with my car for the last 5/6 months and in that time my wife has had many trips to the hospital for treatment and the retailer was told about this when I asked for a courtesy car, yet no car was available throughout.

At one stage it was with them for five weeks but no car was given, even after asking for one many times.

Sounds preferable to the light blue beetle i was given today whilst my Ed 30 went in for a new A/C compressor and lambda probe

One saving grace was it at least had the dealership name and 'courtesy car' down the side in big letter so people didint think I owned it

Hi all,

After my problems with one to$$er at my stealers, not wanting to give me an equiverlent courtesy car ie golf/passat etc, they finally paid for a car from Enterprise rentals, got picked up from the stealers, drove away in a Chrysler Captiva 2.0ltr Diesel 4x4 thing, and by christ its big!!!!!! It is a bit cheap and tacky, but goes quite well for a tank,so if you get offered a fox or polo, and it's warranty work, dig your heels in if you have to carry passengers/prams etc over the days they have your motor and you think your going to be put out.

My Gti is in for Driver's leather recaro coming away from one of the top handle's,dsg slow to move up or down, when in third, drivers leccy window switch not working properly,so hopefully not many miles put on.

Anyone else had similar faults, and joy with repairs???

Thanks,

Chris.
