Suburu Impreza Wrx STi

anyone every owned one of these, whats the performance like in comparison to my DSG GTi?, just that i had some test pilot come screaming up behind my backside today, who had clocked me, thought he would try and egg me on by almost kissing my back bumper doing some silly speed.Ok i thought, control myself, do i dont i............. oh bollox, dropped the DSG into S. He got abit of a shock as i went to overtake a slow Sunday driver my GTi left him for dust, i accelarated from 40mph upwards is all im gonna say on a country A road, and the scooby tried to follow, he fell back 50 or so yards and couldnt make up the distance on me much to my surprise! and smugness!. From what i saw it was a 2005 WRX STI, at the next juntion he pulled along side and turned the other direction and acknoledged me with a parting Wave!!.
I thought those cars are by far quicker then My old girl!, am i underestimating the performance of the golf? anyone else had any simular experiances? or driving one of those cars?

Heres what i saw in my rear view.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-SUBARU-IMPREZA-WRX-STI-TYPE-UK-BLUE_W0QQitemZ130133985661QQihZ003QQcategoryZ18277QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

 i thank you

The WRX STI are ( from memory ) 280bhp 4x4 as standard  and will leave a 200bhp GTI for dust. Totally different class of performance to be fair . The standard WRX scoobies are more of an even playing field ( in the dry at least ) .
2007 GTI with a hint of Bluefin.

They do suffer from turbo lag so if the driver's caught in the wrong gear you would expect to get away....only to be reeled in as the extra horses come into play

Suburu wrx sti, 0-60 in about 5 secs BUT, bad turbo lag,

golf gti with dsg, 0-60 in about 6 secs BUT no turbo lag,.... not much at all in it and should you be lucky enough to have a golf gti dsg with remap and about 260bhp  :smug:, different ball game

Both sound cars, both capable of  things when tuned!!!

Without trying put down the Golf in any way, if that was an STi then you should not have done that to it. Either it wasn't an STi or the driver has no idea how to drive.

My 2003 car was a scooby wrx,and previous to that was an Sti,
what you tend to find with them, they are very quick off the line superb traction, and low down grunt but all scoobies suffer from mid range top end mainly down to gearing and fwd drag especially from aroud 70mph upwards.read my article about a month back when i compared my previous gti to one of my scoobies, however the scoobie is a superb car but technology has caught up with it
Dont embarras yourself by competing with an Sti from a standstill because you will come out second best but mid range to top end the wheel turns

well it was from 40 mph to some 3 digit figure and it couldnt make anyground back on me, it must of been the 2 litre version cus i wouldnt stand a cats hell in chance if it was the bigger 2.5 wrx which agreed shouldnt be played with!.I think the GTi with the quick gearchange and no lag from maybe low rev's that the suburu must of been in.Ive kept up with a pair of P1 suburu's in the past, their initial accelaration is faster then the golf, but every time they had to change gear, i was right up behind them again!. Perhaps i was just in a dream.

Not a dream at all, when i purchased my 55plate Gti,and after a few thousand miles i was surprised how more responsive it was mid range upwards than my old Scoobie, the flat four in the Impreza is a superb low down to mid range engine, but you have got to realise its early ninties technology, compared with up to date Fsi equipment
