£500 to spend
« on: 15 July 2007, 18:08 »
Right i have sold my MK3 1.4 and now have £500 to spend on my next car.
Was thinking of a Beetle but not going to get a decent enough car for this price so now im on the lookout for something but i dont know what.
What you would get? and where would you look?
Fed up of looking on Ebay as the description is not normally for the car advertised (you read description arrange to view and the 2 dont match up)
Would £500 be enough for either a MK2 or MK3 GTi?

You could easily find a Mk2 GTi, might be a little tatty with high mileage (not something to worry too much about), but should manage to get a decent enough car with MOT. You might manage to find a Mk3 GTI for that price, but it's more likely to be in a sorry state and if all you can find is 8v Mk3's you'll probably be disappointed with the power of it. But if you want more modern looks and comfort it's the one to go for.
My money would be on a Mk2 GTI though. More fun for little cash.

To be honest having just got rid of a Mk3 it would have to be a good MK3 GTi to tempt me into having another 1, but you never know as i've seen MK3 gtis for the same price as MK2 Gtis.

There was a Convertible Mk1 at Volksfest yesterday for £700!!
Bodywork was faded but overall looked like a good project

i found loads of sub 500 quid mk2's when i was looking for my trackday car. eventually paid 160. turns out there was nothing wrong with it besides a rotten drivers door.

Think everyone seems to be jumping on the MK2 bandwagon and over inflating the prices. This is happening to classics minis at the moment.

Youll get a reasonable mk2 for that, know what you mean on the minis, ridiculous prices.
