You could get square lights for mk1s though so it is possible that your uncle had after market lights on them. I think someone like Reiger did them along with their bodykits.

Ok, decided that the best person to ask was my uncle, turns out he has some good info on the car.
Car was first owned by my uncle, then went to another uncle (where all this info has come from) and then onto my cousin, who ended up scrapping it

Firstly some pics :

It was a good shout on the Reiger kit, that's exactly what it is:

From Reiger:

It started life as a 1979 Rabbit Gti and was taken away by Oettinger to prototype his Golf upgrades. Mr Oettinger first did his prototype bits on the Golf and Passat in 1979 (i.e. this golf) He had previously been doing Beetles and camper vans.
I know it is an 81 year reg plate, but original German docs said it was a 79.

Car came back from Oettinger as a 2 litre block, with full Bilstein height adjustable suspension along with strengthened struts and bracing, anti surge sump (which my cousin still has apparently along with some other bits, I have yet to speak to him) and a few other goodies.

The car was first used by Mr VW's son and then brought over to the UK where my uncle got his hands on it.

That's all the info I have managed to get so far :D

I kinda like that mk1 and the details on the Oettinger rabbit I've seen before via vwvortex forum, but not the website covering it, so again you learn something new each day on mk1's build out there many years ago.

Is this like the steering wheel then ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-oettinger-steering-wheel-vw-golf-polo-gti-g60-16v_W0QQitemZ160140891601QQihZ006QQcategoryZ9889QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

No, you can actually see the steering wheel in the 3rd pic on my earlier post. The center badge has Oettinger and an icon of some description. The pic is an old one. I'll get a brand new pic posted up soon as my uncle still has the steering wheel gathering dust in his garage. I would guess that is is likely a one off and a whole lot rarer that that one on ebay (potentially worth a lot more than the £110 wining bid on that one  )

I will send this thread to him and see if he can post some pics up and answer some question without going through me.

Hi all, new to the forum and thought I'd say hello and that I have an oettinger mk1 gti 16s! Bought it about 2 months ago, needs a little work to bring back to good health though! Still in very good condition for age though.
Regards kevin.
