How much, advice needed, please help!

Going to sell my GTi,

It's a 56 Plate 3dr in diamond black with 18in monza 2 alloys, 6cd changer, climate, interlagos cloth, only done 11,000 miles.

How much should I be looking to get for it privately. Have been offered 17k from stealers... I mean dealers, anyone have an idea of what I should get for it privately, Not a mark on the car, I've lovingly cherished it since new so it's immaculate.

Dealer has similar on his forcourt at £19k. Id say you should look to sell for £18k personally.

I've just looked in the July07 Glass's guide from the sales manager at where I work and the figures are:-
10k on clock, 56 plate, manual, to trade £16875 or retail at £18375, that is not adjusted for options or extra mileage, just a standard 10K 3 door 56 plate 2.0 T FSI GTI. Hope that gives you a rough guide!!

Just sold mine almost exact same spec ( a few tiny more items aswell as DSG, 07 plate with 9k miles sold for £18995 (it was an import) think £17k is fair price for yours perhaps some more if it is a 2007 car. Add £1k if a uk car

Maybe I let my 06 plate go too cheap!  I sold it last September when it was 6 months old for £17k.  It was a UK main dealer car, had Pearlescet Black paint, 18" Monza's, front centre arm rest, highline computer and Autoglym Lifeshine. The mileage was 15k miles

This may be down to dealer self interest, but it is likely that any import would be valued at (much) less in a part ex deal compared with a UK sourced car. May not be so much of a problem in a private sale but UK cars have a 3 year warranty and imports only have 12 months.

Imports are obviously cheaper than UK sourced cars, so what you gain when buying, you lose when you come to sell.

VW imports actually have 2 year warranties.  Lot's of Mk IV Golfs and Reanultsport Cars were imported but you don't see them advertised as such in the Autotrader and Pistonheads. As long as the 3 year warranty isn't an issue you will get pretty much the same as a UK car in a private sale so buying an import is a win win scenario. The only people who complain are VW dealers and punters who've paid top dollar for their GTI's.

Agree in part here. From my own experience, I imported an Audi TT from the Netherlands in 2000. I saved over 4k on the deal but when I came to sell it through the trade, I lost almost the same amount because it was an import. I would have part ex-ed it for my Boxster but the local OPC offered me even less Fact is, the motor trade look after their own and if you don't stick with the same brand, they simply offer bottom book price and often will only take a car in part ex when they have already got a price/deal from another trader to shift it on. Won't bore you all with the details, but the Audi had a persistent fault with the dual mass flywheel and I was so p1ssed off with it I decided to sell it and move on. My import came with only a 12 month pan-European warranty but you may well be right about the 2 year warranty now. It may not be an issue to private buyers but at some point if/when an import is sold through the trade, the current owner will take a hit.
