Front Chin Spoiler
« on: 11 July 2007, 11:30 »
Not happy with the standard front chin spolier on my GTi.. wanted to chnage to an Edition 30 chin spoiler but at £320 for the part I think that is a bit reip off... other option is the Votex spolier which I hear is very similar to the ED30 front but with some air gaps, like this: http://www.parts4vws.com/registry/registry_detail.asp?MemberCarID=11570 which looks pretty decent too.

Anyone got this fitted to their GTi and could post couple of front on a side-on view pictures?  Want to get this done asap, as I just do not like the black side skirts and standard front lip...

I am aiming to achieve a look that is not too in your face, but a bit more aggressive... I really like the Ed30 styling, but my funds do not stretch to ED30!

Thanks
Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

Front vortex spoiler isnt cheaper either!
The best thing in my opinion is to get one of these: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/store/product.php?xProd=3737&xSec=156 (ABT Golf Mk5 GTI Frontspoiler) but that is even £288. dont forget you'll need to get that professionally painted also. Which will set you back around £350'ish. Hardly worth it for such a small item which does get overlooked!

Just get the original GTI one colour-coded and save yourself £200 atleast. Tahts what im doing.

PS  Isnt the GTI chinspoiler exactly the same design as the E30? Comparing pictures of the GTI and the E30 it looks exactly the same to me. Only visual difference being colour-coding to the naked eye...

Bit of carbon also looks good on either a red or black car

Can get votex for £205 delivered - so a good £125 cheaper than the Edition 30 spoiler... don't really like the ABT one... bit too in your face... trying to go for a balance between Max Power and Standard... colour coding it will cost approx £150 according to two bodyshops I questioned... this is for full match to VW colour.

As for original GTI spoiler and ED30 being the same, nope... hangs about 10-20mm lower than the standard one... just looks more aggressive but in a subtle way

I have already saved a fair few bob as my car already has the rear valance colour coded so thats saved me about £200, especially as I didn't too bad on the price originally anyway...

Cheers for your help

Not bad, I think this is what RedRobin has on his... I think i still prefer the votex on though.... and of course the ED30 is still my fave... just a shame its typical rip-off VW for genuine parts...

I guess its all down to personal preferences, plenty of people like the black bits on the GTi as it contrasts... I just think it looks half finished... so I wont be happy until colour coded... then I might just fly in the face of popular opinion and get my Monza II's done in a dark colour (anthracite perhaps) and leave the very outer rim a silver colour... bit like the Monza's on the European ED30.... not too popular I know but it flicks the switch for me

£355 just for the front chinspoiler
Im getting my whole car colour-coded for £475.....

I have to admit, if the only difference is 10/20mm hang between the GTI and the E30 it isnt much. I certainly couldnt tell looking on the pictures and i doubt most otehr people would notice that either.

on a black car you cant hardly see the chin spoiler, don't see the point in having it painted. and with all the speed bumps round out way the paint will soon be scraped off the bottom anyway!

Gary Sent you a PM,

heres the difference

Standard -

ED30 - No Gap in centre section -

Votex - Gap with 2 Small Bars -

I had Votex on my old GTi its just subtle without being over the top -

Hopefully will notice it alittle more on white,

Rob

I hear what you are saying, but for me the ED30 and Votex spoilers enhance the appearance greatly, my car is red so I am anticipating it having a big impact
