Have you bought R32 side skirts? or are they gonna paint over the standard ones? if so does this mean that smooth it?

one of the side skirts is going to be R32 because it came off in the accident. The other will be the normal GTI one.
Ye they said that they have to prepare the surface first and then prime it and then apply the paint.
Paint job is guranteed for 3 yrs

For the money Max, I'd change both. Aren't they like £40 a pair??

I've got 2 R32 skirts, an ed30 front spoiler and another GTi rear valance/bumper. They will prime and smooth the rear valance out (middle bit being left black) and spray the skirts & spoiler for £250. I'll be fitting them myself. They quoted £570 to spray and fit.

Hi Kiddfrost

Have you had your spoilers painted yet and can you post some pics please if you have,  as im thinking of getting mine done, did you buy your skirts and front spoiler from a main dealer and how much if you dont mind, i've been quoted 500 to remove and paint the origanals but i might remove and fit myself to reduce the cost, are they fairly easy to remove? :undecided:

Hi,

I brought my skirts, spoiler and rear bumper from a main dealer, £300 for the spoiler, £50 for the skirts and £40 for another rear bumper. Fitting wasn't to difficult but I did have a problem with the skirts. Although the company I used to do the spraying did a fantastic job, they peeled away the backing from the double sided tape on one of the skirts and all the stickyness had gone. I had to spend over an hour painfully trying to peel it off to replace it.
I went for the ed30 spoiler mainly because it was factory primed (for paint adhesion as the front takes a beating) and also I think it looks better than the standard but not over the top.

The car felt unfinished to me like they'd run out of spray paint at the factory and just let it roll off the production line as is.
I'm sure its not to everyones taste but I like it.

First pics post so hope it works:

Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

I prefer it with the "diffuser bit" left in original plastic. You cant tell the paint has been cut in because of the recess in the bumper. Another reason was my theory (be it right or a load of rubbish) that the bumper being made out of the stuff not ideal for painting on, being close to the exhaust and constant heat may have caused the paint to flake in that area.
