Colour Coding & Price
« on: 10 July 2007, 15:17 »
I've been quoted £475 to get my black GTI completely colour coded.
This involves:

- Front chin spoiler
- Rear bumper
- 2x Side Skirt
- 2x Wing mirror attachment

Is this a fair price or a rip off?

I don't think that's too bad? Perhaps a tad high?

There's a lot of labour involved in 'smoothing' out the dimpled finish and the correct primers to ensure good 'keying' don't come cheap either.

At the end of the day a cheap job will be just that and you'll regret penny pinching?

Quoted mine 2 weeks ago, £300, your getting ripped off i think ,and i live in the expensive south, look elsewhere, mine also included plastic primer which doesnt allow the paint to flake in later years.

Have you bought R32 side skirts? or are they gonna paint over the standard ones? if so does this mean that smooth it?

be very careful, the dimpled finish is very difficult to smooth, apparantly is sort of goes furry when you try, every bodyshop I have tried are willing to do the colour coding but won't guarantee the adhesion, they say it could be ok but then again it might not. I've tried 6 different places and all of them have suggested getting body parts from VW that come smooth and primered i.e ED30 but have you seen the price? think I'm gonna take a chance anyway

one of the side skirts is going to be R32 because it came off in the accident. The other will be the normal GTI one.
Ye they said that they have to prepare the surface first and then prime it and then apply the paint.
Paint job is guranteed for 3 yrs

I hear what your saying.
Most people say that the paint job might only last a year or two but that doesnt bother me as i'll have changed cars in a year or so. And the colour coding comes with a 3yr gurantee.
Im not paying those redicilous VW prices for ED30 parts   No chance!
I'll take my chances.
