do you think my paint looks flat dodgy?
« on: 08 July 2007, 01:52 »
Its hard to tell more from the pictures but i think you can still tell quite a lot it has been respayed poorly maybe diy job, its on the left front door rear wing and tail gate must have had a scrape at some point and respayed,

this is a followup from my post where i bought it for cheap, has 144k fsh engine rebuild etc, apart from a out of tune engine rough running drives well, do you have any ideas how much the 3 panels will cost to redo? I expect it will be a lot less than a mint bodyied car would cost, some bits are very flat have swirl marks and even bits looks dodgy shade in the light slighly ligherter in areas and few rough patches will have to take some in an enclosed area as well. I didnt even notice as it in his lockup as was no sunlight but thought it would be cheap for some reason, my mechanics friend does bodywork at weekends so i was hoping he would do it for under £300 or less as he resprayed and filled a dent on a rear wing once for £80 for me which is quite cheap and couldnt tell the difference, not sur eif he still does it,im not sure what most bodyshop guys charge, if you know any in northampton  or surrounding let me know

anyway does it look that bad? I think it does the more i look at it, would appreciate opinions and whether it was still good value, I have to remeber it what i payed isnt that much,
if the pictures are to big or to many let me know not sure if there is a limit on here. ignore the cat he just whats attention and fame
good side first right, then its the left door back wing and tailgate thats a bit dodgy looking

the bad paintwork dont show it up as much in seperate pics and the  sunlight makes it look well bad as it metalic and just refecting of it, body issues never show up well on pictures maybe i should of taken some in a gargae car park etc, in normal light it  shows up more on the door and swirls mark lighter patches its annoyin i didnt spot it, but i prob would have bought it anyway wasnt to well when bought it so was a risky buy but cant see any accident damage bodged panels so must have been cosmetic damage before resprayed

acully i will change pics as these ones are crap as all you can see is sunlight reflection lol

Hard to say but the left does look different to the right side.... give it a really good polish (if we ever have a dry day).. T-cut (or claybar first) and then a polish finsihed off with a quality wax.
this is how mine first looked

and after a good clean up..

Mine wasn't bad but hadn't had a good clean for year's....

it does look flat.... get some 2000 grade wet and dry paper wet flat the panels down till you get a white residue appear (dont rub too hard) then get some 3m fast cut and work it in by hand or mop then polish and it should come up ok.

it looks like there is a massive crease in some pictures? might be worth giving it to a body shop to mop over as you could make things worse. if there is enough paint on the panels then you'll be able to flat it back to a good shine.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post
