replacing valve cover seal

need to replace the cork seal around the rocker cover gasket is this a big job 4 me to do? how will i do it?
Gti 8v not bad for a first car

what engine? either way its easy, if you don't knwo what you're doing be methodical and remove things in order and put them back in the same order.
if its an 8v go to VW's parts department, and ask for part number: 026 198 025 c which is the updated version of the crap cork one and come with new head studs to make it fit. it costs £11.75.
don't know the 16v part number. either engine, its pretty easy even if you don't know what you're doing.

If it's an 8v be carefull if removing the rubber bung off the top of the rocker cover, as these are fragile and perish with age.

yeah its an 8v just realised that the leak is coming from the oil breather thing a saucer above it easier to replace take off and put on? its from the stalk bit at the bottom of it

The pipe at the bottom always falls apart. take a trip to German and Sweedish car parts, or Euro Car parts, should be able to source a replacement.
