Ok, I'd like a newer Gti, but changing cirumstances with a house purchase means I gotta make cutbacks if I want a GTI too. Otherwise it may have to be a SEAT Leon FR....so a couple of questions if you don't mind:

1) Are there any build issues with the earlier MK5 Gtis?

2) Why did VW stop doing blue ones?

3) It may have a few months VW warranty left - anyone know how much it is to extend it?

Cheers.

This is strange, I can't find a 2004 MK5 Gti listed on either www.parkers.co.uk or www.wisebuyers.co.uk!

Wonder if it's an import? Oh well going now so I'll find out!

I could be wrong but the model year is 2005, but the first Mk5 GTI's were on 54 plates, so to the untrained eye they look like 2004 models.

Yep first golfs were 54 plates... I looked at one.  Any earlier and it is probably an import.
Extending the warranty is being discussed here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=61711.0
Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

You have the best deal, the early Gti's were a better build in the interia, plastics and various little other bits were included, and sneakerly removed off later versions, (Cost cutting by Vw). yes it is shadow blue, mines laser blue and think both blues are great.Reason for the laser blue vanished was because of the arrival of the deep blue R32 which looks simular.Get as many toys as you can , will hold better on residuals. What spec does the car have if youve seen it?????

It has a massive options spec, consisting of:

1) Arm rest
2) Cd changer in arm rest
3) er that's it

Everything was going well, it had been a main dealer demo, registered December 2004, then sold after 4 months for £18,500 to the same person who'd chopped it in at a SAAB dealer where it was being sold. Was due a 12 month service last week, but this would have been done before it was sold.

Unfortunately the steering wheel wasn't on straight  and it looked like it was steering to the right when going straight along the road. I initially thought it may be camber of the road, but jumping on the brakes caused it to jump to the right.

May be it was just tyre pressures, or tracking, but the "it will pass the 2,000,003 point Network Q inspection and we Guarentee it will be sorted if you agree to buy the car" line wasn't really going to convince me.....it could have bent suspension or been in an accident, unless you lot tell me "they all do that"!

Shame cos rest of the car was sorted. There is always something.

from my experience, get anything sorted before you even put a deposit down, as the dealers are lying money grabbing ba$tards, but then you probably knew that already!
