Hi, jus had my Rallye in for MOT and it failed on two things, cracked window which i've replaced, and ABS light is constantly on.

The ABS light wasn't actually connected until it went in for MOT so that's why it never came on before.. I've got the car in the garage now and the mechanic said he can't find the diagnostic port for the ABS or something like that, so is havin a hard job sorting it. Any tips from G60 or Rallye owners pls...

jv had this happen then his ABS packed up. turned out to be the fuse? sounds daft but have you checked it? we were head scratching for a while before it was found!

Its a bit naughty but take the bulb out if everything else is OK with the brakes (don't sue me if you crash though!)

...joe, I'll ask him if he's checked the fuse, i'm guessing he has though. It seems no-where can help him though, been to a few different garages he knows and none of them know how to run a diagnostic on her!

Biz, Before it went into MOT this week the actual ABS light was already disconnected, but to pass the MOT it has to be working properly. The brakes work fine it's just the regulations at the MOT centre say everythin needs to work...  Might just remove the whole ABS system as it weighs a ton anyway! lol

If I remember rightly when I "fixed" JV's car the light wasn't on.

Worth checking the fuse though but it sounds like someone had disconnected the light due to an ongoing problem.

Check the plug is properly pushed into the ABS control unit in the boot, check you haven't got a broken wire to the sender in the filler cap of the brake fluid resevoir as they can chafe on other cables (speedo cable is very close). Also check that the plug in the cap is fully home and the connections are clean.

Probably too obvious but the light will come on if the fluid level (check with engine running) is too low too.

I honestly can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure there is a relay on the board, check it is ok and pushed fully home if there is.

Unplug the little Orange plugs from the wheel sensors and check the connections are clean, remove the wheels and clean the sensors and the slotted metal disks which they use to sense wheel speed with a soft brush.

Check the earth connections to the ABS pump and that all the plugs are pushed home with no broken wires.

Still no luck could be a wheel senser or faulty control unit.

Does the ABS actually work?

Oh and it could be the senser in the fluid filler cap, they are about a 100 quid so you might want to find a helpful Rallye owner who will let you swap caps to see if that cures the problem.

The diagnostic port sits under the gear lever surround. If the light is on as soon as you switch the ignition on and stays on it sounds more like the pump or relay rather than a sensor.

you can't remove a bulb. If there is ABS fitted to a car the light MUST follow a certain light sequence. if this sequence is oncorrect e.g. light does not come on, or does not go out at correct time then that is a fail!

hope you get it sorted! hopefully it wont be expensive!!
