WHAT?!?!
« on: 04 July 2007, 16:05 »
Just fitted some replacement shocks and springs, now top of the front turrets look like this. Hmmmm... Not quite right! What are they meant to look like? (I can't remember)... Obviously meant to be the same either side, but should there be a gap at all?

Thanks for your help!

Yep there should be a gap, more like the size of the 1st pic. Did you replace the top mounts?

Looks like the top mount on one side is shot - replace as a pair.

Yep the rubber bit, they go soft and weak.

Surprised the car doesn't lean a bit.

I thought it would too... Even got the tape measure out as I was a bit confused!

Back to numpty mode though... Surely with a gap the springs/shocks are not being supported correctly? Jacking the car up causes the gap to disappear, would this not happen should the car take off and cause possible damage??

I forgot to check all this out before removing old springs... Bit of a happy Gilmore approach

thats exactly what those 2 things are for, if you go airborne it stops your struts falling out
Also stops that happening when the car is jacked up ;)

Fair enough!

I know all cars are I like this... I was just wondering about the theory as I would have thought no gap at all would be better to eliminate any movement? I suppose the manufacturers know best!

When you change them, fit G60 items. They last longer.

How often do you expect to go airborne in a MK2 ;)
While its on the ground there shouldn't be any play :)
