Wheel Swap?
« on: 03 July 2007, 13:31 »
Anyone interested in a wheel swap?  I have 19inch BBS CH Alloys fitted to my Mk5, which are actually very nice wheels (inch larger version of the ED30 wheels) - pictures here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=61284.0 - however they are just a little too "flash" for me... I would prefer the original 18inch Monza II.

Condition is overall very good, back ones are perfect.. some small specks of brake dust which I will need to use and alloy wheel cleaner to get rid of, fronts have similar black dots, but also have a couple of small inch long, very shallow kerb marks - easy to remedy... backs are fitted with continental sport contact II with a few thousand miles worth of tread left... fromts are fitted with Federal SS 595 (budget tyre I know but they are basically brand new!).  I was actually thinking of getting the wheels refurned and sprayed black... which I have seen on a TT... they looked sweet!  But in the end I decided I want to be a bit subtler.

Would expect swap Monza's to be in equally good condition, preferably without any kerb marks as I know these are very hard to refurbish...

Alternatively if anyone wants to make me an offer to purchase the CH's I would listen... brand new (without tyres) they are around £295+ each... I hear that the Monza's are expensive to buy from VW so I would need to recoup as much cash as possible!

Cheers

Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

I agree, is crazy, but I didnt fit them

The guy I bought the car fitted them because he was selling it... he was reducing his costs... which is fair enough... not many buyers pay a premium for premium tyres on second hand cars... and TBH it didn't put me off the car as I had already haggled him down to a very reasonable price...

Personally I would have purcahsed Goodyear F1's if it where my choice... only £50 a coner more expensive... but a much better tyre

Love the 19" CH wheels, refurb them and keep them on, I think they look sweet on your GTI. Just put some
quality rubber on them!! I tried in vain to get some good sensible money Monza 2's and ended up with the Ed30 wheels from ebay in Germany, decent Monza 2's are like the muck from a rocking horse!

Yeah - they are nice wheels, just feel they make the car stand out a bit... would prefer something a little more subtle... and I do love the Monza II's
I am waiting to hear back from a VW dealer on getting a set of 4... I have heard horror stories of them being £385+ a wheel without tyres... so I doubt that will be a goer!!  But I will ask anyway...

Good luck on your quest for the sensible priced Monza II's, I fear that you may need it!  (£385 per wheel and then tyres, that is steep, my ED30 wheels were £480 delivered for 4 from Germany without tyres ).

Wow - £480 for the ED30 wheels... were they OE ones or replicas?  Thats a damned good price.
I actually would consider buying some of the 18inch Pescaras as they look nice and are a bit subtler than the 19 BBS CH (which is in effect just an inch larger version of the pescara anyway)... I just find the 19's a bit too in your face... but it is all a matter of personal preference really...

So, if anyone out there has a set of OE pescaras I might also consider a swap for them

19's are too bling for the GTI which has understated beauty. You will be looking for big money for a set of 18" Monzas.  Plenty of firms selling replicas on ebay around the the £600 mark with rubber .
2007 GTI with a hint of Bluefin.

Just been quoted by DSGWagen on Ebay £1060 plus £40 delivery which includes 4x rims, 4x centres and 4x metal valves which apparently are needed and they are genuine BBS wheels.  So then say £130 a corner for some decent tyres.... ouch!  Thats £1620 in total... plus the cost to fit them... hmmmm.... expensive... goes to show what a bargain they are when ordered as an option...

Not interested in replica Monza's to be honest... if worse comes to the worse, I will just keep the CH's...

Northerner,
The wheels are BBS VZ and are from a shop in Germany, they are the 8 x 18" VAG alloy, with the correct centre bore/offset and uses the standard wheels bolts and locks. You get BBS centres not VW and you don't get the 'motorsport' logo around them like your CH wheels have. I think the 'Pescara' wheel is 7.5 x 18 in size but that is the only difference that I can see. I ordered and payed through paypal and received the wheels in three days, tracking number was supplied next day and the German Logistics Service website was updated daily as to the location of the wheels. Item numbers on ebay are here= http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BBS-8-x-18-ET44-LK-5-112-VZ-033-CH-AUDI-A-3-VW-GOLF-V_W0QQitemZ300125560229QQihZ020QQcategoryZ9888QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
Item no 300125560229. Hope all that works as I am a bit new to this........ :embarassed:
