Boot release
« on: 02 July 2007, 10:36 »
Is there anyway the boot can be opened whilst the engine is running. To explain a scenario, I often drop the wife off at work, pull up and she jumps out and gets her bag from the boot, however the boot is always locked. I have to take key out of ignition to unlock the boot.

So can i get the boot to unlock without having to take key out? I try the boot button on the remote but this doesnt work!

Safety feature to prevent boot being opened when key in ignition and engine running. Good anti-hijack feature when you are stationary. Not sure if this can be disabled by dealer VAGcom but may be part of auto locking mechanism.

Good point. Wife got out of passemger side yesterday to put her coat in the boot - tried several times and started cussing  Car had been driven a short distance and the boot was still locked. Didn't try the unlocking button though. Raining at time - she wasn't happy  Nice and dry in the drivers seat though

Doubt the key operated boot switch would function when the key is in the ignition or when car in motion.

Surely this would not be necessary as she would have already left the car and the doors would be open? Might be wrong!!

Could this be a - 1st to come up with a solution wins a prize?

the unlock button on the door does work, but simply getting out of the car does not.

It does also depend on how you have the door locking configured though.  Mine is set so i have to pull the handle twice - once to unlock and again to open the door.  if the GF gets out of the passenger side the boot will stay locked.  Just press the door unlock button and jobs a ood un!!

So is the prize that someone will buy my well loved pride and joy...?

If you have the antihijack feature enabled, when you stop with the car running simply flick the switch to open all doors on the drivers door. This will open the boot even if your wife has already got out using the two pull handle method on the passenger door.   When you then move off again the doors and boot will autolock. Thats how it all works with mine anyway

I too noticed this "problem"... I now try to remember to just press the unlock button on the door as she hops out of the car
