multifunction steering wheel wiring

Hi, just bought aftermarket MF steering wheel for my 05 GTI. Having trouble getting it to be programmed in, have bought wiring harness but garage trying to code say that their maybe a various different wiring harnesses available, but say could also be faulty control unit on actual wheel as have no life from horn either. Which you would think would be pretty staright forward power source and earth. Can anybody shed any light on this as really frustrating having the wheel but being useless at mo. Cheers

That thread on VWvortex was very good, but still not solving problems anybody any other ideas. PLEASE :cry:
