MY EDITION 30 IS AT LAST BLUEFINED
« on: 28 June 2007, 17:03 »

Yes,at last finally fitted this morning,
drove on twisty A road for six miles no real difference but the engine feels more alive and hardly no throttle is needed, gave it a quick blast in 3rd gear and o my god, this is a different engine no strain but effortless boost.
Quick run down the dual carriagway 4th gear 5th gear response is superb,it would take a really good car to match it,i would go as far to say it made my old scooby feel like a diesel from that mid range boost,
the added bonus overall consumption was 33.6mph,very much on par with standard ed30 setting.
the engine now feels smoother,as its still only has 2200 miles im still driving sensibly, but tonight im a happy bunny
p.s engine now running on TESCO 99 biofuel or has been for last couple of weeks, octane level is high and it does benefit,i have noticed slight incrase in mpg,and less refuelling stops....

Good man!! Great ain't it!? I'm still grinning  By the way, do you now get an extra whistle sound when accelerating hard? Not talking about the normal turbo sound, but its like a sucking/whistling type noise if that makes sense!, it only does it on mine when the Bluefin is installed when on standard map its fine.

Hi Russ,
yes it seems to sound more musical than before, but a lot less strained you almost felt the engine was detuned,it now breathes better and respond so well,by the way im not connected with Tesco in any way but if you have an outlet nearby, try Tesco 99 (biofuel),after a while once the ecu responds you will feel a difference.

Hi Ed30/ Aled,

I haven't done the bluefin yet, as been away on leave and Vince told me to phone him when I get back.

I am a *little bit* tentative about the upgrade - when spending £500 > £600 quid I hope that I get my money's worth with the update (don't want to spend that amount of money and then regret it).

Is the bluefin all it's cracked up to be - I come from diesels previously having a Bora TDi 150 Sport - and love torque, which is not quite the same on the MKV GTi (ableit very good anyway) so I'm wondering what it will feel like (difference) for me to get the Bluefin.

Also, I asked Superchips directly about a discount (but still getting it done by Vince) and they couldn't offer me the 10% discount they do for offer forum members eg. via uk-mkivs.net without me ordering from them direct (doing it myself) or going down to Buckingham for them to do it.

Did you get a discount at all on yours Aled?

Cheers,

Rob (not Paul! )

Hi Rob,
sorry about the name,if you have read the forum you are now aware that some people rave about Bluefin some not,all i can say i go back to the bad old days of chipping with 1980 machinery do not confuse Bluefin with that,my ed30 is now more driveable, flexible and now feels like the engine it should be in the first place, slightly better fuel return as well, the overall throttle control is a delight, and my wife who drives car on daily basis prefers it to standard set up personally im more than pleased with it,and i know others on this forum who have had it fitted like it
i had a 10% discount but bear in mind there were delays on mine which were sorted, speak to Vince he will put you straight on how you stand.
I know superchips dont always get it but i think the bluefin is spot on,dont try and compare it with Tdi upgrades this is on another planet
If you want give Vince a call he will give you my contact details, more than happy for you to come down and try the Ed 30 out before you decide..

Hi Aled,

Many thanks for that informative post mate - where are you located specifically in South-West Wales? I would be very interested in seeing your GTi in action, compared to my standard 2.0T block, so I'll drop Vince a line tomorrow.

I also had my car in the dealers about 3 weeks ago, with turbo lag and acceleration wasn't on top form - this has since been improved via an ECU update.

From what Vince says, if there are any problems with the current engine performance (as you say he knows his stuff, as he mentioned the DV problem which can happen with the 2.0T!) then he can sort it out, and also sort out the bluefin and get the car performing to what it should be like...

Did you get onto the rolling road to confirm figures before and after?

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob,
give Vince a ring ill let him know that you will need my details,Vince did not bother on rolling road as engine is still tight on the ed,so ill probably go back when shes on 5k plus, but the engine is very smooth,if my memory is correct you live in Aberystwyth,we live near Lampeter so its ideal for you..
cheers see you soon
