Hi,

I have recently got my '89 16 valver back from the garage having had the head gasket replaced. It was running a bit rough to start with so I had a look around the engine at the weekend and spotted that there were 2 gaskets between the two sections of the inlet manifold. I pulled it apart to remove the extra gasket and found that the new gasket installed by the garage was the 45mm inside diameter version but I have a 50mm manifold.

I have removed the smaller gasket and left the original and it now runs much better but I am worried that the inlet manifold to head, gasket could also be a smaller diameter. I have asked the "mechanic" who did the work and he says that it was definatly the right size, but would you trust a man who left the old gasket on and didn't notice that the new one was considerably smaller?

Can anyone tell me if the lower inlet manifold gasket is a different size on the 50mm from the 45mm?

Thanks, Chesh.

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
the heads have the same inlet ports regardless of the inlet manifold thats fitted, its only the gasket between the 2 halves of the inlet manifold that differs :)
