Spongey Brakes

After a garage replaced my rear axle they simply couldent get the brakes to feel right. I wasnt that bothered because i was going to put some braided lines on and thought i will just do it myself. Anyway ive put all 6 braided lines on, checked each caliper and bled the system thoroughly till frest new clear fluid came through. But its still the same. Pedal nearly goes to the floor and the brakes are very poor. Do you recon i need a new master cylinder?

Brand new disc pads will take up alot of slack, well it did on mine.

I have spongy brakes when my rear calipers start seizing up. A large hammer usualy sorts them out :wink:

Tried adjusting the rear brake load sensor thing (forgot the technical name)


Might be a faulty master cylinder. They are cheap to replace anyway

Poor.

Master Cylinder. Had the same on mine when I first got the car chap.. It's not hard, and it's not expensive  :smiley:

Yeah the pedal goes to the floor. i can get all 4 wheels to lock but do have to push all the way to the floor. And yes i bled the system with the bias valve clamped open. I also dont have any seized calipers as ive checked. Disks and pads are also fine.

Guess i will have to try the Master Cylinder. Ta

Could be seals on the master cylinder. How much did you bleed the system though? Are you absolutley postive there is no air remaining in the system seeing as you replaced all the brake lines.

Might be worth checking all the pipework aswell for leaks seeing as mk2's are now at the prime age for rusting on brake lines.

When you bleed the brakes if the pedal hits the floor it generally blows your master cylinder so be careful when you've changed it.

I've had this before and it was the master cylinder and 2 of my slaves cylinders that had gone so i'd make sure those are good too...

Well i changed the MC this weekend but its no different! I think i may have missed something though. What is the pin you get with a new MC? Should it go inbetween the servo and MC somewhere? anyone got pics?
