i have just got my self a d reg gti 8v an was thinkin of puttin a k&n filter on it is there any cheep way of gettin more power from this car thanks....

Can either go induction kit or a quality panel filter with a few holes drilled through the bottom of the air box, which seams to be another option! Since it's a recent purchase I'd put a fuel system cleaner additive in with a full tank of tesco's 99 octance gogo juice  :evil: that might bring back any lost power. When was the last oil/filter/plugs changed? got to look after her!

if i were you, i'd drill the air box like a man on a mission and make it holier than a reverand, and buy a cheap ass air filter...then when its mucky and needs changing, its only a couple o quicd to change, where as if you buy a k&N, then thats it, 40£(or so) and it'll get dirtier and dirtier and you wont wanna fork out for a new one or a cleaning kit, and u'll loose performance.

40£ K&N or 4£ paper filter and big drill bit(1£)...hummm

If you drill the box full of holes as so many people do, the paper filter is subject to more particle damage than you maybe aware, then if it is holed then damage could occur(even if you don't see it) along with the fact the performance isn't enhanced at all just the air wistle sounds good. With a K&N you can get all this without drilling the box, thus having to clean it less due to smaller particles in the box, and the sound may not be there but these filters create no resistance to the air thus keeping it cooler, thus getting more in the cylinder each stroke, therefore you don't have to drive it as hard to get that little bit more and maybe extend your engine life!!!!
A little spent now, will only result in alot more later!!!!  :cry:

I recommend to touch nothing and just change normal air filter regularly.

My reasoning is that drilling and/or a K&N don't really give an improvement on an otherwise standard car except in noise and as a buyer i would be wary of buying a car with a drilled air box as it screams "I rag my car"  :laugh:

I love my drilled box and K&N panel filter. Sounds the same on low revs... then you open up the 2nd butterfly and it roars  :smiley:

I wouldnt waste the money on an induction kit, leave them to the max power boys. Give your car a good service and get it properly set up by someone in the know

just buy the k & n oil at 10 quid a can then shove your k&n in some petrol, it cleans it a treat! leave it to dry then re-oil!  :smiley:
