I find my 16v plenty torquey enough for everyday driving, never need to rev the balls of it - but I can if I want 2!!!
The only prob I find is that it wants to rev and pull past the rev limiter!

double the valves has got to be better

definately mate, i found there was plenty of low down torque for everyday driving, this argument is going to go on till the end of time though i feel.

Drive both and then decide for yourself.

People with 8v's will say go for an 8v, and vice versa.

I'd get a 16v......................!

i love my valver and prefer the look of the engine bay to that of the 8v. Nicer inlet manifold etc... I have heard on good authority that the 16v k jet fueling system very out dated now though and only good for about 170 - 180bhp.
As for reliability - we are talking about 15+ year old engines. They all suffer from failures from time to time. its the luck of the draw...

personally no, the vr6 is supposedly fantastic, but its not for me in a mk2!

I love the revvy valver motor, and the sound it makes, and spend the extra £1500 of your budget and your good for 180bhp anyway, without the expense of running a v6

Id say g60, I hear vr6 don’t handle well but I don’t know I drive a 1.3 but on forza motor sport the 16v is sweet I want one!

Valver or 1.8t, a VR sounds great but it ain't the same as the screaming banshee of a valver going past at 6500rpm  it's like a jet fighter bbbwwwaaarpppp :D whereas a 1.8t is just fookin rapid!

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08
