Hello all,fellow Golf owners.

New to starting a new thread on here, although have been reading and admiring cars recently, and the general all round help to one and all with our pride and joy's is amazing.

Hopefully someone can give me some advice on this subject,as the stealer's are pi$$ing me off now.
Searched about for the best cash deal on a options add up on top of car £27800 Golf gti 3dr,dsg,18"monzas,blackdiamond paint, heated recaros,M/F/SW with flappy bits, rear tints,lux2,highline comp. After going around 4 stealers in the northeast, choose the one who said yes to £25500 cash and free superguard,it was close as 2 others said £25750.

After explaining Renault uk looked after me with my clio 172 Cup,and giving me a pre booked courtesy car, normally a modus/clio or a megane if servicing and faults had occured(not many i must admit)they were excellent,so my VW salesman assured me i would get a golf/jetta or a passat, and all cars now have to be auto/dsg after i lost my left arm in an explosion at work,so he convinced me and i handed over the cash.

Drove the car out of the show room late April and a loud rattle was instantly heard from behind the dash, although like most, you hope newness is the problem, but it got unbearable and wife and work colleuges soon commented on a new car,so vw mech took it out with me and sprayed silocone down the vent but still no fix,3 weeks into the new gti and was well impressed with car esp the dsg, then the leather came away from the handle on the driver recaro,so i booked it in a week later with the promise of a equivellent golf auto/dsg or a passat from a local car rental, offered me a sales guy's golf gt with dsg when i got there, although he had to take his golf clubs out!!
Then they asked who i was insured with and told me the insurance would be swapped for the 4 days they needed it for??? swiftcover do not cover courtesy cars so that was that car out. Then told me leather seat was not here and also not sure there guy's could do the job or proper leather upholsterers were needed,so i agreed they could take me back home and keep the car for the day to sort the rattle.Went back and rattle has gone, now they have offered me a polo auto for the 4/5 days maybe a week, when they know i pick up the kids, have a new addition with pram etc,and also have to pick up work mates to go to  oil/gas refinerys sometimes not all,but who is to say i wont have to in the 4/5 days maybe longer they need the gti.I dont see why i have to juggle picking up kids/friends etc because i have a polo,i did'nt have this problem when i had the clio,no pram, drove alone to work offshore.I have said i am in no hurry and can wait for a equivellent car,but they do not want to know, and they still dont know if the techs can fit the leather!!!This is now two weeks old, have been in touch with VW UK and they fully agree with my situation after paying all the money and said they are looking into it and will get in touch soon.

Sorry to all on such a long one,but it's best to explain everything, and see if anyone else has had a similar situation, and offer advice.

Thanks guys,
Chris.

Hi Chris, sorry to hear of your problems, over the last three years I’ve dealt with 4 VW dealers and have to say on the whole there rubbish, but luckily for me my local dealer has been good to me ( touches wood) I’ve had my fair share of problems with three different MK5 Gulfs and all the problems have been down to dealer errors, the one thing I will say is that I’ve always got a result from the dealers, weather it be the job done correctly or cash in lei of out of pocket expenses.

My advise is to deal with the dealer principle, don’t go through the salesman, most are covering their own backsides and will fob you off.

I’ve found emailing got me the best and fastest result, listing all your concerns and grievances also keep a log of every call/email, and Stick to your guns.

Oh and good luck Mate.

i must say , just had my car in for its 15000 service, and managed to scrounge a Vw Touran 2.0 TDI.had the car for 2 days, being that i have a 4yr old and wife is 7 months gone, they put half a tank of diesel in it for me, as i had some warranty issues with my GTi, which were, rear wiper motor having a mind of its own, slight knock on steering when stationary turning left (steering rack or suspention tops?)and being abit thursty and not as pin sharp on accelaration. They once again were superb, although couldnt find or get the steering knock to do what i was saying, did also a punture repair on rear tyre( unbeknown to me) fitted 2 new tyres, done a brake fluid change, replaced rear wiper motor assembly complete(warranty) supplied sat nav cd rom 2007-08 as requested, washed the car and hoovered( which i wasnt expecting) carried out a software update, to help with the performance which so far, the cars  running like a dream know and seems to have smoothened up the dsg gear change aswell in 2nd and 3rd.
Since buying the car in sept last year, Peter Cooper Vw hedge end ,have been top draw, and have really looked after me without any pressure or needing to constantly remind them what id expect as a customer, they have always gone 1 better.
So on this rare sounding occasion, i think the dealer scores a point in my case!,
I think half the problem is about getting a car same spec as your own gti is hard for the dealer because the cars aernt the most common on their own books, they are not like polo's,standard golfs, tourans as they have lots floating around and GTi's aernt just a common item in a dealerships stock list to lend out,as they get limited ordering ability or allocation per year for this type of golf or maybe the spec you need. i understand your situation with needing a dsg or equivelent vehical whilst yours is being fixed. If the dealer is any good, im sure they would do their best and as we all know, in the real world, wishes are not always possible and they cannot be Jim'll fix it.
