Electric Window Loom
« on: 19 June 2007, 19:17 »
Hi all,

I've managed to get some motors and regs for my leccy windows (thanks SI_GTI).  I'm looking at trying to use mk3 switches, the ones in the doors cos I think they're smaller, would i be able to use or adapt a mk2 loom to fit these or would i be better off making my own loom??- like the one on the maintenance and info section...

Thanks

that diagram i made was abit shodz . you need to take the switch bulbs out for the loom to work.

Its for a quick fix and uses no relays.

Needs deleting.

Think there is a diagram on another forum with the relay. Sorry cant remember
:)

If you have a 90 spec car - hazard light switch on the top of the steering cowl - you can use the loom and switches from a Corrado, though you will need the brain to go with it.

right after doing a bit of reading on this one i reckon i'm gonna go for the loom outta a 1990 gt passat with the old auto close function  !!!

however i've found one now, how long do you guys think this would take to remove and what would be fair price to pay for it??

cheers all

I paid £40 for the loom, brain and switches from a Corrado (similar to Passat). To get the auto close you will need the doorlock as well - not sure if Passat is suitable. Be warned though you do get an awful lot of wire, which is why I haven't fitted mine yet :undecided:

does the corrado loom have the auto close function too?? whats the benefit of the corrado loom over the stock mk2 loom and the passat loom?

these things are never straight forward are they??!

Yup the Corrado has full closure. The Std Mk2 set up is very simple, just switches, motors and wires, so the window only moves with your finger on the switch. The system on Passat, Corrado and some Toledos (of a similar vintage) allows one touch opening and closing and - if you have the right door lock - will close the windows and sunroof when you lock up. Corrados, and it seems the Passats, have the switches in the doors, the Toledo's are in the centre consol, like a std Golf set-up. All have a black box that does all the clever stuff. The main reason for choosing a Corrado loom is my car is two door and Passats and Toledos are four door so you get a whole load of extra wire and switches.
The advantage? Well std Golf set-ups can go for silly money, so if you're a bit canny you can do the job a whole lot cheaper and as I have a Votex style centre Consol full of ICE I need the switches in the door. That said mines a '91 model with the CE2 fusebox so it will plug straight in. On pre- '89 Golfs the std set up may be the easier option but I'm 100% on that.

Whose Golf passed yet another MOT today with no problems :smug:
