Hey fellow GTI Owners
« on: 17 June 2007, 12:12 »
Well After always wanting the mystical GTI i have finally bought a 90' gti 8v, got it quite cheap but intend to resurect the old girl.
Only issue it has is the erratic idling and after some searching through this forum found out about the blue temp sensor.......but my local VW Garage (heritage in bristol) can only seem to source out the wrong part. They have sent me a sensor with a round connector and on my car its a rectangle.
Any ideas as to what the actual part number is or how i can found out my engine type, sorry if these are noob questions but im keen to get the gist of these german engineered classics.

Hi and welcome!

I can't help with the actual part number, but if your car is a 1990 8v then the engine code is "pb" and you have the digifant engine, rather than the k-jet injection.

According to Rubjonny:

First thing to do is buy a new Blue temp sender from VW, it only costs £13.  It's listed on ETKA as being for cars equipped with a catalyst, but it is the right one for your car!  Don't bother with GSF ones as they tend to fail prematurely!

Maybe they are giving you the one that shows up on their system being for your car?

you want part number 025 906 041A

ive just ordered one including a seal, costs £15 ish inc vat for the two.

erratic idling may also be the idle stablisation valve (located on top of the inlet manifold area) or an air leak (check all the vacuum pipes, inc the "flying saucer" breather gromet on top of the rocker cover)

I don't think a semi will give the same results

cheers for that
i was told it was the isv valve when bought car but when i went to replace it, its actually brand new and hums fine when ignition on. I disconected the blue temp and cars runs okish so im fairly certain its that. From what i can see the vw guy is bloody useless but am going to take the part and the number you have given me down there and see what happens.
also just on a side note the car has crappy 14' alloys from a astra i think and i was wondering what size is normal? 15 or 17 etc as i need new ones

the guy i saw was quite young and retarded by all accounts, i live over by knowle area and im not sure of any other vw places, so where is venture tyres as ive never heard of them?

funny thing is i had a brand new polo from heritage before i bought golf and im amused that a 1.2 polo is nearly £100 more to insurance than the gti.....we live in a strange world

let me know if you know the address of that place as it dont ring any bells

you are literally around the corner from me as i'm in brislington, basically, from where you are ebst bet is to come up to broadwalk and drop down talbot, over the little bridge and take a left at the end onto the one way system, follow the bath road down and around to the left towards town, and then when you coem to the lights with the bridge on your right, just apst the car place and visual impact, get in the right hand lane, turn right go over the bridge, and then left at the other end of the bridge, down the hill and tis on your left.. its near the dogs home, first garage on the left at thhe bottom of the hill

go in and upstairs and theres a guy called Dan, he's worked main dealers, eurosh!tparts, and there, and has been in the game for 20years.. should sort you out

alternatively if ya wnana check first try 9418641 or 9418642

in my experience the ISV isn't usually the reason why the car hunts, its usually incorectly setup, a faulty blue sender or the idle switch isnt working properly, check my digifant tuning guide :)

On the ETKA system, the sensor ytou ewant is listed to only fit cars with a catalyst, but this is bollocks its for all later digifant cars :)
