V6 4-motion, Any good?

I have been trying to decide what car i want if change jobs and lose the company PD130. Started with an S3 which are affordable.  But after looking in Auto trader and seeing how cheap the 4-motions are i think i would like one.  ?15k for a low mile fully loaded one.

Firstly, i kow these are quick.  But how do they drive, has anyone had a go in one. Whatever i get next it has to be four wheel drive. What say you lot S3 vs $-motion.  Things going for the 4-motion is that it is a golf an i like golfs, and it is very understated and surprisingly not mentioned anymore by mags or even web-sites.

You lucky boy!! what a choice! I would go for the S3 because they too are 4 wheel drive and incredibly quick.I have been wasted several times by them, they look gorgeous very understated but you dont even need to modify it everything's so right.I have heard the golf's weighed down by the body and the 4 wheel drivetrain.
Drive both but i think the Audi has the edge and seems to hold its value better.

having driven both, the S3 outweighs the 4motion on performance as "stock". If it's a company car and you can get the 4motion tuned, then head for the 4motion, simply because I love golfs   . If that's not a viable option then the S3 is a quality motor.

I've been in both. The S3 is bloody quick, and comes in 2 flavours of 210 and 225 bhp. I went in a 210bhp one and it was excellent, as said above everything is already sorted on it from stock, the speed, braking, handling is all there. Also the interior instrumentation is nice with a 'enhanced' version of the Golf's trip computer.

The 4motion is more of a cruiser and therefore has more wallowy suspension, still quick off a standing start, 0-60 in the low 7s i think. A lot of people are buying 4motions as a cheap way to get a R32 style car, you get the same 4 wheel drive and only about 30BHP less the an R32, they mod the breaks/suspension etc and chip them.

Its a tough one, but I'd say the S3 and eventually get it remapp'd (I think this can easily take it to 265bhp!)

yeah i just looked on autotrader, i think S3 too, ?16500 gets a silver S3 on a 51 plate with 20k on the clock, BOSE stereo, 225Bhp.  God they look nice, oh well just gotta find a new job to get rid of the company car.

Personally, I'd go for the S3 as they are sportier (harder suspension etc. and marginally quicker) and you'd need to do absolutely nothing to it, except maybe get some nicer alloys - I'm not too keen on the stock ones. (I know mine aren't that great - I'm saving up!)

If you like 'doing up' cars go for the 4motion, as they are slightly cheaper, and you could make this into one bad-boy motor.

yeah s3 top car but if were my choice id go for the 4 motion!!!as some one said earlier only 30 bhp ish less than r32!!,get some r32 bumpers on, window tints, private plate, nice sounding exhaust then wahay r32 here i come!! lol (well a cheaper version of one!!lol)

 I've just joined the forum,i was in a similar situation to yourself and went for the s3.I looked at the v6 4 motion but having seen it ,it was just too much like a standard golf and not "special enough".The s3 has terriffic torque and zero spool and being 4wd and harder suspension,handles terrifically well.Also the electric leather recaros are beautiful and mines are heated too and they have loads of gizmos.If your after subtle go for a black or grey.....NOT IMOLA YELLOW!!!Looks great in that colour but attracts alot of attention.I think your point about the depreciation is also a good one as the s3 is becoming a bit of a cult car now they have seized production so prices are holding v .well unlike the golf.Another option is the seat leon cupra r which has the same engine as the s3 but 2wd,v good value.regards Ryan
