Left hand drive in the UK - hassle?
« on: 13 February 2004, 14:32 »
Afternoon people, anyone have any experience of owning/driving a left hand drive car in the UK?

Just thinking about something at the moment  ;) that is LHD and wondering how much of a pain it is. Could you have one as your only car do you reckon?

Driven a LHD Ferrari 355  8) on a track before but real road use is a bit different.

I know plenty of people who come back from overseas with left hookers, and none of them have sadi they have a problem. Actually knew a bloke with a LHD Nissan 300, and he said he preferred the experience to a RHD.

You got your eye on a Rallye then?

Think its just something u gotta get used to... along with the weird looks from ppl wondering where the driver is..

I skated with a french guy who brought his car over.. used to have great fun holding our hands up or pretending not to be paying attention when going around corners.. lol
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

used to have a left hooker vw camper (73) which i can honestly say all though slow was one of the most 'fun' experiences to drive!!!! yeah there ok, but if you need to over take and cant take a look up the inside just make sure you trust your co pilots judgement!!!! as they are 'your' eyes too! ;D

Yea and mcdonalds is a pain. I've driven a g60 and I actually prefered it. Over taking is harder but in a g60 u just pull out and floor it  8)

If u get a g60 then I'd be ur new best friend

Easy solution JV - Get H to run one car and you run the other!!! one way of getting her to own a VW!

don't think that is quite going to work!

just not sure whether to carry on with my car but things like engine swaps are big money, or buy something more mental in the first place. trouble with the second idea is that all the finest VW-made mk2's are LHD.
