GOLF Key Fob/Key
« on: 13 February 2004, 11:28 »
Hello People,

Anyone know where I can get a replacement Key Fob and Key for my Golf, Ive only got the one fob/key and think its safe to have a spare one just incase... I have got the key tag which has the unique key number on it. I know I can probably go to a VW Dealer but they are very pricey and thought there must be a cheaper way. Doesnt have to look like the original key fob (the fancy part where it swings out with a touch of a button!), as long as I can get the central locking/alarm engage and new key to work.

Thanks... for your time.

i think its deffo a main dealer jobby as the key (either the plastic one with the code/or the flip fob)has a chip inside which operates the immobiliser, if you were to have just a key cut you wouldnt be able to start the car as no chip!!!!, i may be wrong but thats why u need the code!! ;D

on my mum's polo the immobiliser works off the alarm system so when you swith the alarm off the immobiliser is also off.

there is a seperate 3 pronged "usb lookalike" key that has to be pressed into the corresponding port in the glovebox to switch the immobiliser off in the event that the car has to be started without the electronic remote control keyfob.

on my golf i think like kniterider said the immobiliser is built into the key but i'm not totally sure.
