make sure they click at idle & wide open throttle, then get a multimeter on the plug to check they pass current at idle, stop when throttle is open slightly, then pass current again when the throttle is wide open. Then last of all check for 5v on the connector from the ECU. If all that checks out I'd look into the knock sensor, the haynes details how you can check this, basically you disconnect the blue temp sender and check the timing advance at 2300rpm, then make sure it advances a further 30 degrees when its plugged back in. If it only goes about 20degrees, slacken and re-torque the knock sensor bolt (20Nm (15lbf ft). If there is non at all, the blue temp sensor or wiring to it is dead.
