If you have a '91 reg Golf cab do you class that as MK1 (which I would as it's the old shape) or a MK2 which Vix thinks it should be classed as because of the year ?

Well, its definately a MK1. It seems odd but they made two cars at the same time, the MK2, and the MK1 Cab. They continued to make MK1 Cabs until H reg i think.

Just what I thought, mk1 vote for me then. Sorry Vix !

It was strange that they kept on different bodies for a number of years, but I'd buy a MK1 shape cab now if they still made them and I had the cash.

gibby, what i say in chat and what i say here are very different things. how often do u talk sense when ur drunk. ;)

Im just sticking up for the fact that my cars a rusty y reg and i think its unfair to compare it with a 10 year+ newer model sometimes. ::)

but when we talk about what cars we like I would say a mark 1 and black gti would as an example say a mark 3. there completely different shapes and we can as golf lovers identify with that.
I wanted an original mark 1, so when I was looking I would only look at cars older than '85. these imo are the original cabs. anything newer I consider in line with the mark 2 and therefore a 'not original' mark 1 cab. but a less rusty, shinier, better improved version of the original. 8)

i hope this makes sense without causing offence, im just old fashioned at the end of the day.  :P

;DVixter, your cab is a mk1 (whatever bits it has on or when it was made) ,  they didnt make a mk2 cab, also did you know that mk4 cabs are actually mk3's tarted up to look like mk4's. Seems VW only produce a cab every 2 mks, this means we should get a mk5.  ;D

the fact vw didnt make a mark 2 cab is the point im debating with gibby about. if vw had made a mark 2 gibby might well be driving it! :P

have a look at the mark 5 section for a picture of the new mark 5 cab concept thingy. ugly bugger in my opinion but then thats why i drive a mark 1 ;D

I wouldn't have wanted a mark 2 cab as I like the shape of the mark 1, always have, always will.

Next time on chat Vix, me and you are going drink for drink so we are on the same level ! Hic !

U know me too well.  :D

I think its what we were brought up with... mk3 Golf's were around when I was at school (and the the mk4 when I was at GCSE's but they were brand new and there was shed loads of mk3's around).

Im sure it was the mk1/2 for Vix as shes only a touch older than me (shes 21 i think  ;) )

and older people will appreciate the original golf mk1 (before the GTI) ...

its all about age imo ... what u were brought up with.
