Help, cant remove speedo!
« on: 07 June 2007, 15:07 »
My speedo snapped so I disconnected from Clocks and fed though to gearbox, is all ready to be removed, have removed the retaining 11m bolt that holds it in the gearbox, and the casing has slid up a bit and also got the rubber bung out but I cant get the metal sleave thing out of the gearbox??

How the hell do you do it?

You need to take the entire thing out (the metal plate that the screw goes through etc), should come out as a whole straight up. be gentle just incase the gear on the end is loose (it can potentially fall into the gearbox!). When its out, swap the gear onto the new cable and refitment is the reverse of removal.

I'd try and get a flat screwdriver blade under one side (IIRC the plate has a lip all round) and gently prise it off.  Did the same to mine on the same job.  Just do it carefully so that you don't leave the spline drive in the box.....!

In the end I just yanked it and it came out with the speedo drive still connected!
