Cleaning Alloys

Hi all,

I know this has probably been posted before but I'd like some advice on cleaning my alloys please.

I'm sh!t scared of using brushes or "acid based" kits in case I take the finish off the wheel itself. What technique/products does anyone else use?

i use Meguiars Hot Rims on my wheels; spray on then use a lambswool wash mitt with your body shampoo (i use Poorboys Super Slick) and wipe off. 

Rinse off with a hose, allow to dry and then apply a wax to the wheels.  Stick your sunnies on, sit back and admire the shine  :cool:

I use Mag's hot rims on mine aswell. Then i use P21S wax to finish them off for the shine!
To top it off i use Mag's tyre shine. Really does give it the finishing touch!!!!

Best way of cleaning pescaras is rockinghams! :wink:

I have always found you have to modify the type of brushes etc you use depending on the design of the wheels.

With my Pescaras so far my Megs Ultra Safe Wheel brush fits through the spokes to clean the inside of the wheel and the brake calipers, then an old MF wash mit to do the front. Bought some Poor Boys Wheel Sealant to make cleaning them easier, but early days to see how good that is yet.

But if you keep them waxed and wash them once a week, then just your normal car shampoo is all that will be required.

I use Zymol wheel cleaner and protector. Took the wheels off the other weekend to give them a coating so when I came to clean them this week, it was a doodle. Seem to remember though that the brake dust starts to stick on the wheels again after a month of so.  :sad:  I have read that if you use the same wax that you use on the bodywork it works just as well at protecting your wheels, so I think I will try that next time.

I've ordered some of the Poorboys wheel sealant too.
I'm going to take my wheels off and give them a good coating as soon as I get the car home!

Apparently it makes them very easy to clean in future... but if it only lasts a month then I'll be pretty dissapointed!!
