erh, launch control is only for DSG GTI and R32, and also it doesnt have a clutch, so nothing to worry about!

Been eating too many 'shrooms??

Actually, I think you'll find launch control is enabled on all DSG cars - it just isn't documented in the owners manuals.  Indeedy, b4 ordering the GTI, SWMBO and I were also considering the A3, and we borrowed a demo A3 3.2 with DSG, and that certainy had launch control enabled    - but there was naff all about it in the manual!  :smug:

I am not an engineer, but I think using launch control all the time does not do your car good. I believe I've read something like this, it was discussion of dsg in audi.

Well sort of true.  But neither would Lewis Hamilton starts from every red light and junction be any good for ANY car - manual, auto or DSG.

Lets put this into perspective.  The VAG DSG has no prescribed limits of using launch control - unlike the BMW SMG, which actually stores the number of uses of launch control in it's ECU EEPROM.  Furthermore, the clutch design used in the DSG box is a well proven technology - indeed, it is identical to motorcycle clutches (except the Ducati dry clutches).  There is also an ECU controlled over-ride, if the box oil temperature gets to hot - so, using launch control in moderation should not cause any discernable degridation to the DSG box.

Abuse is a different kettle of fish though!

At the end of the day, why have a dog, if you are going to bark for yourself?

Back from a trip to my local stealer today and one of their technicians has just come back from a performance workshop for the golf gti dsg. He confirmed that launch control is enabled on all gti dsg's and is going to show me how to use next week and get this it apparently reduces the sprint time by half a second!!!!

They were achieving sprints under 6.5!!! He also said that the car is capable of 150mph+

All sounds good to me,....get me to germany for a test drive!!!

I have never driven a GTI before
But i think i would prefer manual rather than DSG....
Car just feels more lively.... (But bare in mind I'm comparing this to the Tiptronic/automatic gearbox in our Pajero)

with manual at least you do not feel like you driving a Goddamn computer! IMHO, of course.
It's computers everywhere!  Let me at least do some shifting on my own, yo!  :nerd:
