Ok ok, I couldn't handle the pressure you were giving me Sean,  so I've just been for a walk out the office. All 4 tyres were made in Mar 07 and I've just looked at the Conti website and they're still on there alongside the Conti SC3s.  :nerd:

Huh?  If they all have "0307", then that means they were made in week 3 of 2007 - which would be January.  :nerd:

Still available 'eh?  Suppose it allows them to keep a satisfactory supply for isolated punctures and the like!

Doh, you're right, sorry forgot the first two digits are weeks of the year not month!  :embarassed:  Car was week 13 build so the tyres were 10 weeks old, to be expected I suppose.

Whoops - an easy mistake!  I suppose it'd really confuse some, trying to work out what month 48 was!

Ten week old tyres - seems like someone at the stealer swapped wheels around.  Especially when the manufacturers use the "just in time" principle.  On my RS4, the car was manufacturerd Jan 07, and the boots are all 0407.  However, I don't know for certain when the Golf was built - maybe June 06, and the boots are all 1906.  :undecided:

according to my stealer you dont need to fit a matching pair of tyres, but then they are barstewards!

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=56400.0

So, you never got that resolved!

I'm still dealing with VWCS regarding my concerns too - useless feckers!

No, they basically said that VW don't know (or care) what agreement I had with the stealer, and cited that it was a used car, so it was up to the stealer and its between me and them.  The stealers response via VWCS, was like it or lump it as the car is roadworthy, etc etc.
My response was that the car had 4 matching tyres when I put the deposit down.  Anyway, I have now put the new non matching tyre on the back, so at least the fronts match.

That is shocking, but sadly, not surprising.  I think any (non-rice) manufacturer's UK importer, be that Reno, Ford, sh!troen, Pukegeot, Vauxhall, etc, etc - would have followed a similar line - not because it was the correct thing to do - but merely because they know they can get away with it.

Did you ever get Trading Standards involved, because, technically, the stealer could be prosecuted under "misrepresentation".  I presume you still have all the paperwork, and you could print off the relevent thread!

Regarding the mis-matches - I would strongly be tempted to have them on the front axle.  Using the same guidelines regarding new tyres on the rear (for better reduction of oversteer tendancies, and better control when it does occur), and also being on the front, they will wear out much quicker than the rear axle, so you wont have to put up with them for such a long period of time.

Ha ha PMSL.  Neg on the stealer swapping the wheels as I saw the car as it arrived at the dealer. Must be using up all there old stock. Still I'd rather have 10 week old Conti's than the Dunlops.

Abso-fookin-lutely.

But just once, you ought to try (no, don't, really!) Pirelli PZero Rossos - they'll make Dunlops look like perfection!

Dunno, who cares!

All Pirellis are under-developed pieces of utter shyte (look on RS246.com to see just how dangerous they are) - a good waste of rubber if you ask!
