have noticed some subtle differneces in mine like no sunroof,mk1 upholstery, thinner steering wheel,no side mouldings etc etc.does anyone know of any other differences??

My MK2 was registered in April 84, with a glass sunroof & had a bigger cam than a standard 8v (which was factory fitted, shown in the spec sheet)

I did have an 84 A reg in my posession up until recently. It only had a single exhaust cut-out (not a double one half blanked) and even had the mk1 style side decals!

my new purchase today is a 1988 jetta 1.8 built in south africa,

 it's got:_

 air con (yes it works)
 fully trimmed boot
 blue tinted glass
weber with manual choke as standard
 different side mouldings
 rear headrests
 leather steering wheel
and more stuff the more i look at it....................why in this country do we get inferior spec motors???

It wasn't so much the price, it was where it was and the fact that i have 2 Golfs at the moment anyway! Admittidly, i did expect it to go for more than that, was very surprised when i saw the finishing price. You definitely got yourself a bargain there!
