Bumpers and blow torch!?

I've been told before that if I get a blow torch to the bumpers of my car it will bring the black in them back, is this true, has anyone on here done this before? I'm cautious incase I end up melting them before a show on over here this weekend.

Ha, you might want to loose the blow torch pal!, you may end up melting a lot more than the bumper :)

Use a heat gun and it will bring them back, butmlike you said, be carefull!

A heat gun, hmm, even if I was to keep the gun back nice and far away would this not do the same job as the heat gun? Although I know the heat gun would be a much sater option, I just don't have one...

I've tried a heatgun, it worked ok.
Have since tried some Trim dye from the USA, half worked but had water coming in to my garage over the weekend and ruined my test. Last night gave in and used Kiwi shoe polish, the ones with the sponge bit on top, side trim looks brand new now. I'll do some tests washing it and seeing how long it lasts :smiley:

I used punch shoe polish last weekend aswell and did a great job, still holding even with the rain and washing it, but I'm still not completely satisfied with it, so thought I might give this heating method a go. The back bumper is the worst of the all and is after losing a bit of it's black from the shoe polish.

Will do it again before this weekend maybe and maybe contineous use it will hold out better.

I used the Kiwi shoe polish and its still on after 2 months its been sat in the drive all that time so been open to the weather and still lookes brand new took just over and hour to do it all and i'm really happy with it

morrisons shoe dye stuff, I've had about 4 coats on now, last coat was about a month ago and they are still lovely deep shiny black.

It is the only way to go....

I use morrisons "shoe scuff cover" at 85p a bottle, i think it might be thicker than the normal polish stuff, and 1 bottle will easily do 4-5 cars worth.
