New car.....?
« on: 28 May 2007, 11:35 »
I have a MKV GTi 05 reg in steel grey with DSG.

My missus is bored of it now and to be honest i have never fully taken to it in the year we have owned it - purely because I miss my 04 reg MK4 R32. I miss it dearly.

So time comes for a new car - my missus says no more golfs!!!!!

Short list

Another R32 old shape more than likely but may stretch to a new one

Nissan 350z - driven it and suprised by how much i liked it (originally missus' choice)

Impreza WR1 - 320bhp and stunning looks i think. The only scoob other than a P1 to own.

Evo 8 320 - Find it boring to look at but a stunning drive.

Running out of ideas at this point.

Anyone have any opinions? Ideas?

I'm suprised you miss your old R32 when you have a GTI! I chopped mine in for an Edition 30 and I've not missed it at all, I find the GTI a much better all round car - why don't you get your GTI re-mapped? Is it the power you miss?
(Otherwise I'd say a Nissan, the new model has 310bhp doesn't it?)

Dont fancy messing with it in that way - plus ruins warranty doesnt it?

It was more the way the R32 made me feel - plus the handling was so so much better. GTi is good but isnt the same!

The 06/56 has 300 the new one out does have 310 but will be looking at 06 56 reg i think. The pre 06 has 276bhp and a slightly second rate interior.

Its my missus' fav by a long way

Can't fault her! Lovely looking motor, although I've never been in one so can't comment on the interior! Good luck with whatever you decide

One of my mates has a 276bhp UK GT version and loves it even though he says it is flawed. His gripes are:-

You can get F*ck all of anything of any decent size in the back due to a HUUUGGE strut brace (I've seen it and it's massive!)
It's a complete p!g in the wet as it's back end slips and slides all over if you try to put more than half throttle on. In snow....WALK
The interior is well designed looks wise, but the materials used are pants and wear quickly.
It sucks petrol from the engine like George Best "likes a tipple" 20mpg average. He is not a slow driver though!

Upsides

His smile can't be wiped off his face when he D1 drifts round a corner.
In his words "it's pant wettingly gorgeous and the birds love the colour" (its gold..or as he says Alizean something or other)

Yeah i have to admit they are awesome fun to drive in the dry - i had a test drive in a 54 plate one from lincoln nissan. It wasnt a GT one so wasnt interested. I also would have to have the Rays wheels.

They are still about 2-3k above budget at the mo so having to wait for a short while to save up.

20mpg is roughly the same as what my R32 returned - if i was lucky.

For some odd reason i want the halfords accident - the WR1 at the mo. Cheaper - faster and my missus hates it so will stay the f**k out of the drivers seat. Unfortunatly she doesnt see it quite like that ha ha

Running out of ideas at this point.

Anyone have any opinions? Ideas?

Three year old B6 S4, or a B5 RS4 Avant.  What about an RS6 Avant, or even one of the older S8s.  :smug:

Ricers do nothing for me, especially after I spent a day at RalliArt, near Dudly, playing with their various Evos and Gallants
