Love my Mk V GTI, best of all the GTI's I've owned. Seriously toyed with getting a new 3 door R32, but decided against it on the basis of head versus heart versus wallet  Had to be a new car for me, a retirement present, but if I was still working and looking hard at a second hand purchase, I would go for an R32, no problem. It would have to be black, obviously  and with loads of extras that someone else had paid for

Don't like the R32 wheels though but those Audi copies of micalee's are something else

That £400 a year road tax has gotta hurt when you add in to annual insurance and  running costs. Lovely motor though.
2007 GTI with a hint of Bluefin.

I't's not that bad TBH, my insurance went up £36 per year when I changed from the GTi to the R32, and over the 3000 miles I covered in the car, I've used approximately 12 more gallons, or one tankfull, and at today pump prices that's £52.

About 350 Phil, but I never really let it go that low,(I have done a couple of times) so about 320.

Obviously i am biast, but give the R32 a drive, Im sure the sound track and AWD will grab ya

Eye, they do sound nice, but a Miltek'd GTI would also be sweet.

One very important thing with the R32 though is the "4wd" - it is actually only a "part-time" 4 wheel drive system, whereby under normal driving conditions, ONLY the front wheels are driven.  So, for 95% of the time, your traction is identical to the GTI.

Another issue with the R32 is the nose-heavy handling, producing noticeably more understeer than the GTI, due to the extra weight of the V6 lump.

A final issue, the R32 is much harder to tune, whereas the GTI lump, in either standard or Ed30 brews, is considerably more tuneable.

One big thing in the R32s favour, its' brakes are much better than the GTI anchors.

and another issue - R32 costs more to buy and to run. And depreciation is higher than that of GTI.
Basically, R32 is not cost-effective.
R32 is chosen COMPLETELY with the heart.  :smug:
