Lots of Curbing - NOW DONE *PICS*
« on: 24 May 2007, 16:50 »
Ive got some BBS RA's and they have light kerbs all the way round them, all 4.
Ive got an idea and want to know if its a good one.

Im thinking i could buy a dremel type thing and use a long straight grinding bit on it and grind all of the light kerbs off, then get a flap wheel in it and polish the edge of the rims. Sound like a good idea? Seems cheaper than sending them all for a refurb.

All input is welcome :)

worth a shot but dont start butchering them.

ive managed to pull curbs out using a hand file. Curbed my RS's once and no one noticed when i filed the marks off

also depends how deep they are. If they are deep then just fill them and spray them up
:)

Anywhere from £30 to £50 per wheel i have been quoted.

From what I understand a refurb company doesn't care how much damage there is (unless they are beyond repair), it's purely x amount of money per wheel.

I have been refurbing a set of wheels myself over the last few weeks and I found the best way to remove the kerb marks was with 240 grit wet and dry and then up to a 600 grit for a final finish, deeper marks might need a bit more effort or just leaving depends how deep the marks are.

I personally use a small hand file and finish off with emery paper then scotch brite. There is a risk of taking off too much by accident using a power tool of any description if the user is not familiar with using them.

ive managed to pull curbs out using a hand file.

This worked for me too. Careful use of a hand file followed by 400 - 600 - 800 - 1200 etc wet and dry (finer if you are polishing)
