Im young-ish (20) and found kwick fit to be considerably cheaper when getting my motor insured (notice I say cheaper, not cheap as I'm still paying stupid money just to be insured, I want all insurance people to burn, except Martin). Also just echoing what someone else said, at 17 don't mod your car becasue these insruance companys will bum you till you bleed. Keep things standard for a few years, either that or get bumed.

Good luck

i know its a bit crap and it doesnt work wonders with handeling but can you class it as standerd if you take a hacksaw to the springs to lower it?

urm no i wouldn't have said so! and if the insurance company finds out you've done that you can kiss goodbye to your insurance!!

always declare anything and everything you have done; its not worth the risk

the whole thing is stupid really, would they charge me extra for painting my vw badges black? also does your insurance cost more if you have aftermarket bigger brakes fitted coz that would just be silly

depends on the insurer thats why its always worth checking out specialists aswell. Ok we dont insure under 19s (like it or not and however good a driver you are statistically they have loads more claims) and sometimes the policy may be a couple £'s more but you wont get ripped off when you mod the car, most cosmetic mods (alloys, bodykits, suspension etc) dont even effect the premium.

lol thanks.....i think

ah insurance, can be a pain in the arse and their young driver quotes are always crazy, Thats why i had a mini, beetle and a old mk2 golf and went with footman and james on classic insurance policy, im coming up to 20 and never paid more than £500 with me as only driver. ALtho on the mk3 ive gone with virgin insurance and its 500 per year (and paying monthly) even tho moms main driver. Im going to do this till im 21 i think (and im getting decent money rather then weekend minimum wage, curse been a student) then once 21 quotes drop a little aswell (not alot mind you) and start buildin no claims  makes world of difference, if i'd had 3years no claims my insurance with just me on would drop by around £600!!!

But ive saved over 1500 by going classic insurance...and in the bugs case tax exempt

Your age mate is the big problem we have all been there just takes time to get some driving experience and build up your no claims. Im 27 and can only just start getting sensible quotes for high perfomance cars.

Yea I will be screwed over as well, havent passed yet because of uni and other things but I have been looking on confussed, go compare and tons of others.

The cheapest I found was £1,435.35 from ECar. Thats with a mk2 gti with no mods third party fire and theft and as 22 years old!!! Most of the insurers wont even touch me or give quotes that are tripple the worth of the car.

They wounder why people drive without insurance

Also with ECar i tried adding some mods, with lowered suspension and new alloys it bumped it up to about 1,800 third party fire and theft.

22 isn't that young any more, I think your main problem is your 0NCB. I'm 21 with a MK5 GTI (group 17) so it can be done.

Yea now a days its all about the NCB, age affected it slighly but not as much as id hoped. Oh well, after the first year [hopfully] I will have 1 year NCB then it will drop by a bit. No rubba dubba for the first year atleast.
