I seriously looked into this when I bought my GTi. But in the end no body shop would guarantee their work against peeling and flaking paint. The painted items are made of different plastic as paint does not adhere to the exposed black plastic well, even after sanding it smooth and priming it.

I saw it as a time bomb waiting to flake...

wantmygti, the bodyshop will be using plasic primer adhesive which will bond the paint and wont flake off, also am worried about sun bleach on black plastic which normally faids after a few yrs so thats why im taking steps now to stop it. Paintwork is guareeteed for 3 years by my bodyshop.

You could go the whole Edition 30 way and get one of those golf ball gear knobs that you mention at least twice a day also!

yes illyan, it will look interesting to see if it ends up looking as good as a previously found laser blue colour coded picture i posted earlier, gonna go with BMX's choice of leaving it black on the lower rear bumper,Then why on earth would i wanna change it for an Ed 30??????  "full leather available in an Edition 30 "erh sorry we dont do that or "Can i order an edition 30 in blue?"
If i had a gun pointing at my head, its always been the colour coding that makes the Ed 30 stand ahead....
oh and forgot the pimply knob aswell!

Have to say that the lower valence should have been left black on the Edition 30 - like the R32 - as it looks so much better.  Quite surprised at the quote you have got - very good.

"full leather available in an Edition 30 "erh sorry we dont do that or "Can i order an edition 30 in blue?"

I know, that was a bummer... I was planning on Recaros on the Edition 30 until I heard you had to have the 'special' seats.  Also the colour selection was a bit limited - would you like black, red or white / a shade of white(silver) / dirty white(grey)

Phil, if you like pimply knobs then thats your business - each to their own       As for what makes the Edition 30 stand out, it is the colour coding but thats just superficial... what makes it stand out vis-a-vis the standard - sorry ordinary - GTI, is the engine... and the engine as VW Driver in the present issue says, is the 'bargain of the century' for £1700 extra.  I drove the Edition 30 for 8000 miles and when the engine slightly opened up it p155ed on the ordinary GTI.

agree with everything you say illyan, but dont agree with it p1ssing all over the standard gti when a simple laptime should prove if its much quicker, but long and short mate, is that it isnt, and proved it with racing against that ford focus ST. The standard Gti is only 0.3 second slower to 60 or 0.1 faster then one with DSG, and even if they were tested as new models with those times and the engines wernt loser, then the amount of peeps been tested on different GTI's going quicker to 60mph then book times, so i dont agree in your comment.
I dont follow if a cars that much quicker, there split hairs difference in lap and sprinting to 60mph

How much NM of  torque do the 2 cars kick out of interest?????

ok torque isnt much in it
207 lbs ft on standard to 221 lbs ft on Ed30   (14lb)
or 280 Nm on standard to 300 Nm on ED 30    (20Nm)

that doesnt really make it piss on the other, only unless you improve the Amount of torque on any engine by a much greater margain.
