MOT Failure help needed!!!

hello everyone im just after some advice really and was wondering how much you reckon it would cost to get this work done.

the points it failed on are as follows-

Upper steering colomn, steering system has excessive free play detected at the steering wheel. im guessing new steering rack housing and bearing needs to be done.

windscreen washers dont give out enough water. (they need a prod with a pin lol)

offside headlamp points to low. (need new adjusters)

(first joint) in exhaust system has a blow.

rear silencer has lost its mounting (AGAIN) i need ANOTHER NEW exhaust rubber its happened to me 5 times now.

offside rear brake pipe corroded

(into o/s rear secondary brake hose) brake pipe corroded.

nearside rear brake pipe corroded.

offside front (front inner wishbone bush) suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush.

(both rear) rear wheel bearing has excessive play.

there are quite a few faults as you can see but to be honest i cant see anything there that is going to cost a shed load of cash to sort out. like i said any advice about cost of it all would be much appreciated.

I ahd this, all it was was an allen key bolt underneath on the indicator stalk side, rubjonny fixed it for me

hmmm that could be why its a little bit lose but there is a grinding noise when i turn the wheel so there is deffo a problem somewhere.

i also had the steering play, again rubjonny fixed it for me, we went to local scrap yard and took a bearing off a newer seat i believe, u need a puller though to get the splin off before u can get to bearing, once thats off its an ok job, but check allen key first

I had masses of play in my steering column the other year, turns out the anti-tamper bolts had worked loose on the mounting bracket. I removed them and replaced them with M8 hex head bolts.....job done.
The exhaust stuff is simple.

I had all my metal brake lines front to rear replaced a couple of years ago at a cost of £250. If it's just all your rears I would hazard a guess at around £150. If you get a pipe end flaring tool, the union fittings and a reel of copper pipe it probably wouldn't be too difficult to make your own, that said I chose not to.

Wishbones can be purchased from GSF with the bushes already fitted for £32 and it's a pretty simple job to do yourself. I think it works out cheaper to buy the whole thing like that and fit it yourself rather than pay a garage to just fit new bushes into the old wishbone. I did mine recently and I'd advise buying all new bolts aswell before tackling the job (they came to about £12 from VAG).

Unless your rear bearings are noisy they can just be adjusted up a bit. Remove the grease caps from your rear hubs, remove the split pin from the axle, tighten the castle nut a bit and fit a new split pin. Taper bearings usually have a small amount of play in them even when correctly adjusted. If you need new bearings they are only about £10-15 for a pair from GSF.

Like you said a reasonably long list but there's nothing too expensive or difficult on there.
Just decide what you wanna tackle yourself and pay the garage to do the rest.

thats awesome tobz just what i wanted to hear, im going to see what i can tackle myself as you said, but most of it ill get a garage to do it because my mechanic skills aint to good lol. i just dont wanna be ripped off which is why i asked about cost of it all but going from what yours saying it shouldnt really cost over £500 to sort it should it which is what i can stretch to at the mo.

I reckon if you sort the easy stuff like the rear bearings, exhaust leak/hanger and hopefully the steering if it's just the bolts then the rest should come in at well under £500
As a very rough estimate I would expect to pay a garage £100 a side to supply and fit wishbones/bushes and about £150 for the brake lines as mentioned earlier.
