Acceleration / Wobble?
« on: 10 February 2004, 02:07 »
MK4 1.8T 5dr
Every so often I like to really put my foot down.  When I do so the car seems to swerve slightly. I overtook a car the other day and I noticed the feeling of swerving whilst overtaking. This doesn't give me complete confidence in the handling. Anybody know what it could be? My previous MK4 didn't do this.

Uneven tyre pressures, shot shocks, worn cv and suspension bushes can all cause this sensation.

Thanks for your advice.

The car is from a dealer and I've had it less than 30 days, the car is booked in to be looked at next week, but I may just tell them I want to exchange it under their 30day exchange policy.  Do you think my reasons for not being happy with the build quality are acceptable for wanting to exchange the car?  It's already been back once.  The only thing is, is  that if you drove it, you'd probably think, yeah, great car, but to me I'm not happy with all the squeaks, and the seats don't seem to be fixed probably, they make a knocking noise when starting and stopping.

Also, I know I'm going on a bit, but I appreciate peoples knowledge on here- Going back to my swerving when accelerating problem - The steering wheel lock on my car never ever locks in a straight/central position if you know what I mean - could this be an indication of steering rod problems?

I think its time to put your point of view assertively to the dealer. At the end of the day you have listed a number of unacceptable problems that need to rectified. Don't be fobbed off by the, "Well, they all do that sir", because they don't. If you exchange it, they will just try and pass it on to someone else. Write to the dealer principal about your problems and state that you expect the faults to be rectified. Good Luck!

I agree with Terminator, get down the stealership and open a can of whoopass.

The Mk4 Golf's reputation is built on quality, safety and dependability. If it fails to meet even one of these selling points, then the car is off the mark, and you should be entitled to one that fullfills their promises.

If the dealer has a 30 day return policy, defintely exercise your right to use it, or strike a deal with delar to have all faults rectified, with a sweetner for you (1 years free servicing or alternative).
