Red does look good in the GTI,  but i would take the black given that choice..   but then laser blue is still the best colour!!..  :smug:

in my experiance of owning black cars, they seem to attract getting either getting Keyed or attracts the car park door dings. Although black wins hands down and not being bias'ed about blue, i think steel grey is a good all rounder.

Steel grey is also nice, from pics and stuff i have seen it looks really good, White and Grey allow the features on the GTI to stand out

well black is a b!tch to clean!
I cleaned my car on yesterday and today. I rinse and dry it only. I waxed and polished it a few feeks ago so that still does the job. It does get dirty really quickly. The road dirt does begin to show after a few hours.

BUT when its clean it looks the dogs danglies! It does get some respect from other drivers and passer-bys

Red does however look nice. I seen a red 3dr version yesterday and it did look cool

No one likes white? I was going to get black but seeing as my last 5 cars have been black (actually my Grand Cherokee was dark blue) I figured it was time for a change. Either way I think the white could even be the best colour given it makes the black accents stand out more. Look at a black GTi and a white GTi next to each other and the white one looks meaner from the front with that big black mouth standing out more.

Agreed, i did mention that Steel Grey allows the features of the GTI to stand out more but so do the white GTI's!

Agreed, black is a bit of a pain to keep clean but if you are an enthusiast you will always look after your GTI, regardless of colour. IMHO, metallic is the way to go as flat colours, especially red, will oxidise in time and turn a hazy pink - the wife's Polo did and once you've cut the paint, it never seemed the same again. You need to ensure it has good wax protection to prevent this happening.

With darker colours, you need to be very careful in the washing process as small scratches and swirl marks show up more in sunlight. Never, ever use a car wash  and make sure you use the best polish/wax you can afford. When it's polished and waxed, black is the dogs :smug:
