Which Gearbox?
« on: 19 May 2007, 18:40 »
Hi all, well I put my 1997  MK3 2.0l 8v Gti up for sale on the forum a while ago and not long after that the reverse gear started making an unhappy noise which I assume is a broken tooth, and then last week the clutch gave up on me.

I have listed it back on the forum open to offers but if I can drop on a decent gearbox at the right money i'm tempted to just keep it and swap boxes and fit a new clutch.

I've been told that the Mk 2 box will fit, is that right? and if so what model specific boxes am I looking for?

There is a Mk 2 box up for sale that he says has been on a Mk3 block that had a mk 2 head on it, does that sound right?

I'm stranded now with no transport and if I am going to buy a box I don't want to get caught out with one that's not gonna fit!
Currently : 1999 MK4 1.8t Gti AGU 5 Door In Black, Pipercross Panel Filter, Full Milltek De-cat system, 4mo rear valance.

I need to know this too, my bro's MK3 is a P reg 8v and also has the reverse gear 'clicking' - his clutch isn't fantastic either so just waiting for it to go then we can sort it all together..

What box will his car need?
