GAP insurance and Lifeshine - Advice please

Hi All, I am due to pick up my 07 plate GTI next week after a fourteen week wait.  I spoke to the dealer today and he was asking me if I wanted to purchase GAP insurance or the Lifeshine pack. They will do the insurance and the Lifeshine for £200 each (normally £300 each at the dealer I bought from). I am tempted with the GAP insurance for that price but not sure about the Lifeshine. I know I could buy a kit quite a bit cheaper and do it myself, but how long is it likely to take me and is it worth doing it myself for the time it may take? Or should I try to get the prices down further? Any advice on both would be mucho appreciated. Thanks

Also, I live in Newcastle and so far I haven't seen one Edition 30! Anyone got one who lives up here??

• Available for DIY on Ebay for about a tenner
• A very profitable 'perk' for the dealer

You can get an awful lot of polish for £200

Thanks. That's what I thought. I said to the dealer I could get the same products for a lot cheaper and he told me I couldn't as they were 'dealer only'

Thanks for that. I found another website but the price was £256 for the three year cover. £150.00 from shortfallcover much better

when I was getting shafted over the tyre (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=56400.)  they tried to flog me GAP insurance for £300 and I told them I would be using click4gap.co.uk because its £150.  he didnt believe me and I made him pull it up on his screen and he ate his words.

Stig,check with your own insurance first, as my dealer tried to sell me the same, and when I phoned my own insurance company (More Than) they told me I was already covered for the first year on my fully comp policy, and I would get paid the invoice value for a total loss claim.

Thanks, but I've already phoned them (Admiral) and they will only cover the market value of the vehicle at the time of the accident no matter how old the car is.

Pity that,  when the dealer tried to sell it to me, I saw it was through a firm called Lumley'shttp://www.lumleyauto.co.uk/mainframe.html  , might be worth trying them direct and cut out the middle man.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I've got a price of £145 from www.surfandprotect.com/ who price matched www.shortfallcover.co.uk then knocked £5 off so might go through them. Thanks again
