OBD 00523 Air intake sensor fault
« on: 16 May 2007, 23:31 »
Just purchased a 96 mk 3 8v with sub 100000, miles going to collect it tomorrow and noticed that the car is very hesitant when driving,  as if there is either fuel or ignition starvation,  plugged in VAGCOM and got 00523 error code,  which is the air intake sensor faulty or wiring, know the usual suspects,  relays 30 & 167 might be faulty as well as carbon build up on the throttle body but want to know where this sensor is and any easy fix up until i can drive it home tomorrow.

If it is a 90 mph per hour wind and you drive your car at 90mph downwind, if you stick your head outside would you feel the wind?

Yes the Air mass sensor is after the filter,  collected the car today and changed the Dizzie cap and rotor immediately, i then removed the throttle body and cleaned the unit with Carb cleaner,  have to admit it was pretty clean, also replaced relay 33 as i had a spare with me,  now need to replace relay 127 to ensure all is ok,   i noticed while cleaning the connector on the air mass unit that one of the terminals was badly corroded and there was a space for Air intake temp sensor on the housing but no sensor or connector?
Took the car for a quick run before handing cash over and it is significantly running better but missing terribly above 3000 rpm.

Tomorrow i will check the spark plugs, leads, air filter, ignition timing and associated sensors,  if anyone can think of anything else in between feel free to advise.

Will update tomorrow.

Well checked the car today in torrential rain and cleaned the 3 pin connector to the MAF,  checked voltage and all good at >11 v,  took fro a short run but misfire lack of power is still there,  had a hunt about for the wiring connector to the Air intake temp sensor but could not find it,  checked autodata and this shows that these is an AIT sensor on the LHS of the airbox but i have no sensor or associated wiring.

Can anyone else check there 8v  to see if a sensor is in place on the LHS of the air box and wher if any does the associated wiring run into the harness?
